Frontier AI Information Sharing Forum (FAISF)

The Frontier AI Information Sharing Forum (FAISF) is an initiative led by the Bank of England, bringing together financial authorities and systemically important UK financial institutions and FMIs to share their experiences on the use of frontier AI for cyber defence. The forum provides a mechanism for sharing knowledge, identifying emerging challenges and promoting informed discussion on the use of frontier AI amongst participants.

The FAISF has published its first technical article, focusing on harness engineering. Drawing on themes discussed through the forum, the article explores the practical considerations involved in designing and operating harnesses that can apply frontier AI capability to cyber defence in a controlled and usable way. It examines how the surrounding tools, workflows, controls, data and operating environments shape the effectiveness of frontier AI, alongside considerations relating to flexibility, assurance, information handling and operational scalability. The article is intended to support discussion within firms and does not introduce new regulatory expectations or guidance.

The FAISF sits alongside, but separate from, the CMORG AI Taskforce as part of the sector's wider effort to build understanding of artificial intelligence and its implications for financial services. While the two groups have distinct areas of focus, both contribute to knowledge sharing, horizon scanning and cross-sector dialogue on emerging AI-related opportunities, risks and resilience considerations.
